NYC
We are getting up bright & early tomorrow and packing a van full of friends, gifts and good coffee and heading to NYC. We will be celebrating our friends birthday, Carmen, in her newly found city, as she has recently transplanted from DC. We are going straight to an Argentine restaurant called Novecento to watch the Argentina vs. Mexico game. Violeta and I have lit our pregame candle tonight for an argentine victory. So, as we go to NYC, we certainly leave you in good hands and in good palletes, as we have been spinning out wonderful flavors all week long. We will have Frog Hollow Organic Peach - only 2 small batches produced, so get this one while it is around, Dulce de Leche Dolcatta - dulce de leche gelato with a strawberry sauce and merengue folded in, an amazing combo of flavors that needs to be experienced, Strawberry Balsamic & Black Pepper - an interesting, fruity and smoky combination. This will be the last couple of batches for the year of this flavor, so, if you are a fan come by and snatch it up, Mango Lime & Chili - one of my current favorites, creamy ataulfo mangoes, fresh squeezed lime and chili piquin, it starts out with an acidic tart mango flavor and finishes with the wonderful heat of chili, not to be missed, Pina Colada - fresh pineapple, coconut and coconut rum, Lemon Basil - a summer classic and one of my all time favorites, the finish is a wonderful sweet lemon tartness, so refreshing for the swampy weather of DC, Chocolate Rocher - it has been awhile since we have spun this one, wonderful chocolate with a chocolate hazelnut prailine folded in.
So, come by and check out some of these beautiful flavors, if you stop by around 3pm, you can sip an espresso, eat some gelato and watch an amazing futbol game. see u next week.
ARGENTINA...ES UN SENTIMIENTO QUE NO PUEDO PARAR...O LE O LE O LE...O LE O LE O LA...ARGENTINA...CADA DIA TE QUIERO MAS...

Hail the Strawberry
Oh Strawberry, oh local Strawberry, how much sweeter and juicier and flavorful and fantastic you are alongside your gigantic psuedo cousin - the mass produced, far away, picked before its time, strawberry. We have been picking up our local strawberries for the past 3 Sundays at Dupont Farmers Market. Today, we picked up many a flat from Mark at Toigo Orchards and I have never had such an 'explosion in the mouth' strawberry. They are bursting with sweetness and juice and flavor and brightness and freshness. We will be spinning out many flavors of Strawberry in the next 3 to 4 weeks until they are sadly gone. Ephemeral local Strawberries. That's why they are so special, now you see em, now you don't. You really should stop by and check out what these strawberries taste like in a sorbetto. Capturing the essence of the fruit is what making sorbetto is all about. This week we are spinning Strawberry sorbetto, Strawberry Balsamic & Black Pepper, Strawberry gelato and Dulce de Leche Dolcatta.oh yeah, i almost forgot...VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!

Damn, that Mexican Vanilla!

Yep, I said it, kinda like Murky Coffee. We spun up a small test batch of Mexican Vanilla this weekend. I shucked the beans and added the pure extract and let it sit for 24 hours. & the result is the best vanilla I have ever tasted. This is not about any kind of bragging rights, all the credit is due to the beans. Thank you AH CACAO. Hats off! This is the BEST, SPICIEST, FULLEST BODY Vanilla I have ever had. I didn't think I would say that after falling for the Tahitian Vanilla, but this is serious vanilla. For the true test pilots of vanilla gelato/ice cream, we would set it down next to any vanilla for a comparison. Strong words. Yep. Good vanilla. Yep. So come around and give it a test ride. We will have Mexican Vanilla gelato begining on Thursday and going until there is no more. I give it a month, tops. We will see. & so will you.

Local Strawberries and Mexican Tequila

Locally grown Strawberries picked at their peak mixed with a little bit of Silver Patron Tequila. Hmmm, hmmmm - there is no better way to kick off the summer fruit season! We will also be formulating Strawberries with Balsamic and Black Pepper, Strawberry gelato, Strawberry gelato with Stracciatella, Strawberry sorbetto, Dulce de Leche Dolcatta (dulce de leche gelato, strawberries and merengue) and several more creations. These strawberries are exploding with sweetness, juice and flavor and it is amazing to experience the difference between locally grown produce and produce that comes from afar. These local strawberries will be around for another 3 or 4 weeks and we will have them in constant supply until there are no more. Then we will be moving on to the Peaches, Cherries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Plums, Nectarines, Blackberries, Melons, Apples and Pears.
So, summer is upon us, fresh strawberries are in abundance and the World Cup begins tomorrow! We couldn't have written a better beginning. Vamos Argentina!

Mexican Vanilla Beans
Well, folks, we have returned, but we have not returned alone. I searched long & hard until I found what I was looking for. Yep, that's right, Mexican Vanilla Beans. Strong, Spicy and supposedly responsible for making the best vanilla in the world. Quite a bold statement, huh? Well, we will let you discern that with your own pallete. Beginning June the 12th, we will start spinning small batches until we have no more. Then, we will just have to trek back to Mexico and bring back more. So, come by and put your pallete to the test. Could it be the best vanilla in the world?
